Urban development and infrastructure projects spark debate in Prague and Brno

Prague 10 is preparing for significant urban transformation, with plans to develop thousands of new apartments on former industrial sites in Vršovice, Bohdalec, and Slatinas. To accommodate the expected population growth, the district is investing 580 million CZK this year, with 284 million CZK dedicated to education. Projects include increasing capacity at Hostýnská and Švehlova primary schools and constructing a new school in Přípotoční.

In Brno, planned reconstructions of Veveří and Štefánikova streets have sparked conflict over potential tree removal. While the city magistrate is planning utility upgrades and expanded transport space, local officials in Brno-střed and Žabovřesk have expressed opposition to cutting down mature trees, particularly a chestnut alley, to make room for new tram platforms and cycling infrastructure.
