Urban development concerns in Italy and cultural tourism in Vietnam
In Torre Annunziata, Italy, architect Claudio Palladino has raised concerns regarding the construction of the new Darsena. While initial proposals envisioned a green, Mediterranean-style seaside promenade featuring trees, shaded areas, and urban furniture to connect the port with the city, the current construction site reportedly consists of concrete and iron poles. Palladino suggests the project is deviating from its ideal design, potentially resulting in a large paved surface resembling a parking lot rather than a livable urban square, which could impact habitability during high summer temperatures.
In Vietnam, the Bay Mau Coconut Forest near Hoi An offers a traditional cultural experience. Visitors can navigate the narrow canals in ‘basket boats’ through a labyrinth of coconut palms. The area features local craftsmanship, such as weaving coconut leaves into objects, and demonstrations of traditional fishing techniques using fan nets. The experience connects travelers to the daily life of local villages and the historical atmosphere of Hoi An.
