Urban Development Corporation to allow public access to Little Dunn’s River

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has announced it will comply with a court order granting the public unrestricted access to Little Dunn’s River in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, seven days a week.

The injunction was granted by the St. Ann Parish Court following legal action by the Jamaica Beach Birthright Environmental Movement (JABBEM). The ruling secures public access to the river, waterfalls, beach, and sea.

While complying with the order, the UDC cautioned that it is currently unable to provide full day-to-day management of the site. The corporation noted it cannot presently supply security, lifeguard services, sanitation, or maintenance typically required for a managed recreational facility. The UDC emphasized that facilitating access is distinct from formal operational management, citing concerns regarding public safety and liability. The corporation has instructed its attorneys to pursue legal avenues regarding the interim ruling while maintaining compliance.
