Urban development projects advance in Tucumán and Quito

In San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, the City Council is reviewing proposals for a new Urban Planning Code (CPU) following participatory hearings with over 60 civil society institutions. Key proposals include the creation of business parks and tourist corridors to modernize the city. Specifically, TIUN S. A. El Azul has proposed a dedicated district for multipurpose business parks within the East Strategic Corridor. This initiative aims to relocate heavy logistics and industrial growth away from the urban center to protect residential roads and reduce large truck traffic in the city core.

In Quito, Ecuador, a USD 21 million public investment is underway to transform the northern sector of the capital. The project includes USD 14 million for the renovation of the Bicentenario Metropolitan Park—converting a former vehicle retention center into a recreational space—and USD 7 million for the extension of Amazonas Avenue. While the works aim to improve mobility and decongest traffic, they have caused significant disruption for local merchants and drivers due to movement restrictions and economic impacts.
