Urban development projects announced in Idar-Oberstein and Berlin
In Idar-Oberstein, the city has outlined a renovation plan for its downtown area totaling approximately 18.16 million euros. The 'Kernbereich Idar' has been included in the 'Lebendige Zentren – Aktive Stadt' urban development funding program, allowing the city to apply for subsidies. The plan covers roughly 22.54 hectares and includes redesigning Alexanderplatz as a central bus hub, upgrading pedestrian zones, and modernizing a youth center. Significant proposals include exploring the relocation of traffic areas and building removals to provide more space for the Idarbach stream.
In Berlin-Friedrichshain, construction has commenced on a new residential complex on the Stralau Peninsula. Located on a former shipyard site at Tunnelstraße, the project by BAUWERT AG will consist of three buildings containing 41 condominiums. The development includes shared garden spaces and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
