Urban heating market expands as Veolia targets European leadership

The European urban heating market is undergoing a significant transformation, with projections suggesting it will grow from 60 billion euros in 2023 to 80 billion euros by 2030. This expansion is driven by regulatory mandates from the European Union, the urgent need for energy security, and the goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.

Veolia has announced ambitions to become the European leader in urban heating by 2030, launching new urban energy offerings. As urban areas account for 80% of CO2 emissions, decarbonizing heat is a critical priority. Currently, nearly two-thirds of heating energy in Europe still relies on fossil fuels.

Successful deployment of these systems requires prioritizing local energy sources to reduce dependence on imported fuels, accelerating the permit approval process for large-scale infrastructure, and securing guarantee funds for geothermal projects.
