Urban infrastructure and heat concerns reported in Banja Luka and Belgrade

In Banja Luka, residents have raised concerns regarding newly marked parking spaces on Braće Jugovića Street. While the addition of parking is welcomed, citizens report that the spaces are only 2.3 meters wide, which may be insufficient for modern, larger vehicles such as SUVs and limousines. Critics also noted that only the beginnings of the spaces were marked rather than the full length, leading to calls for authorities to review the criteria used for these markings.

In Belgrade, thermal imaging has highlighted the extreme temperature differences caused by urban surfaces. In New Belgrade, asphalt temperatures reached 65°C on a summer day, while shaded natural soil nearby remained at 27°C—a difference of nearly 40°C. Dr. Ivan Simić from the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade noted that these surface temperatures are a primary reason for the high number of tropical nights in the city, as absorbed heat is emitted long after sunset.
