Urban infrastructure and safety concerns reported in Catanzaro and Paola
Residents and local associations in Calabria are raising concerns regarding urban maintenance and infrastructure in Catanzaro and Paola.
In Catanzaro, inhabitants of via Caduti sul Lavoro have reported significant road degradation, including potholes, cracks, and overgrown vegetation. A long-standing pothole, cordoned off following utility work, has forced traffic into alternating one-way patterns. Additionally, residents expressed alarm over an abandoned building that has become a site for illegal waste dumping and reported criminal activity, including drug use and prostitution.
In Paola, the association Paolab has called for improved bicycle infrastructure near the railway station. Due to a lack of secure racks and ongoing construction, cyclists are frequently forced to tie their bicycles to construction fences, creating obstacles for pedestrians and vehicles. The association is requesting the installation of more bike racks and the improvement of unpaved parking areas to support growing sustainable mobility trends.
