Urban infrastructure and tree management issues reported in Italian coastal towns

Local residents and representatives in Italy are raising concerns regarding urban infrastructure and the management of public greenery. In Senigallia, Vincenzina Pinto of the Movimento 5 Stelle reported that the Mameli seafront sidewalk has become impassable due to bicycle parking and overgrown tamarisk trees. Pinto also noted the loss of 17 trees in the area, which she described as a loss of natural cooling and shade.

In Piano di Sorrento, residents on Via Carlo Amalfi are facing similar safety issues. Sidewalks have become obstacle courses due to dangerous uneven surfaces caused by tree roots pushing through the asphalt. The root growth is attributed to trees being suffocated by cement and asphalt. Local calls have been made to clear the roots to protect both the trees and pedestrian safety, rather than resorting to further paving or tree removal.
