Urban management and sanitation efforts reported in N’Djamena and Libreville

In N’Djamena, Chad, authorities in the 1st arrondissement conducted an operation in the Guinebor neighborhood on October 5, 2026, to clear illegal occupations of public land. Led by Deputy Mayor Mahamat Hassana Mahamat, the initiative involved law enforcement and aimed to dismantle unauthorized structures that obstructed public access and urban planning. The municipal government stated the action is part of broader urban reforms to ensure public spaces remain accessible and to protect land for collective use.

In Libreville, Gabon, a sanitation campaign in the Lalala district resulted in the collection of over 1.3 tonnes of waste. Organized by the Réseau Gabonais pour l’Environnement et le Développement Durable (RGEDD) with support from SOBRAGA, the effort removed 1,317 kg of refuse, including 465 kg of plastic. The operation targeted plastic pollution to prevent the clogging of drainage channels, which contributes to flooding and disease. The initiative highlights local efforts to manage waste through corporate social responsibility and community volunteerism.
