Urban mobility changes under review in Neuburg and Switzerland

In Neuburg, Germany, local authorities have initiated a trial phase to test the implementation of a pedestrian zone in the city center. The trial will involve closing Färber, Schmid, and Rosen streets to vehicle traffic during two specific weekends in September. During these periods, approximately 30 of the 480 available inner-city parking spaces will be unavailable. The initiative is part of the Integrated Digital Development Concept (IDEK) project, which aims to foster active urban development through citizen participation.

Meanwhile, in Switzerland, the Federal Council is reviewing the controversial 50-meter rule regarding pedestrian crossings. Currently, pedestrians are required to use a crossing if one is located within 50 meters. The review focuses on potentially relaxing this requirement in 30 km/h residential zones to allow for greater freedom of movement, though the rule would likely remain in place on high-traffic, speed-limit 50 km/h roads.
