Urban planners introduce new models for inclusive and accessible cities

New urban planning perspectives are being introduced through recent literary works focusing on inclusivity and accessibility. In Argentina, urbanists Álvaro García Resta and Lucía Bellocchio presented ‘Ciudades Azules’ (Blue Cities) at the Lola Mora Cultural Center. Drawing from their personal experiences as parents of children on the autism spectrum, the authors propose rethinking urban design to accommodate different sensory perceptions and reduce environmental stimuli that create barriers for neurodivergent individuals.

In Spain, urbanist Carlos Moreno has released an essay detailing the ‘15-minute city’ concept. This model, which he helped implement in Paris alongside former Mayor Anne Hidalgo, aims to ensure residents can access all essential services within a 15-minute walk or bike ride from their homes. The concept seeks to reduce traffic congestion, alleviate urban stress, and create more human-centric environments by minimizing long commutes.
