Urban planning and climate resilience initiatives proposed in Terrassa and Barcelona

In Catalonia, local groups and political entities are pushing for urban resilience and improved infrastructure management. In Terrassa, a coalition including ADENC, BiTer, and local residents is protesting a planned 13-million-euro parking project at Portal de Sant Roc. They are demanding the space be converted into an urban forest and climate refuge to combat rising temperatures, arguing that existing parking facilities in the city center are sufficient.

Meanwhile, in Barcelona, the ERC municipal group has proposed the creation of a digital, updated, and live map of the city's subsoil. This initiative follows a recent sinkhole incident in the Putxet neighborhood caused by Metro L9 construction works. The proposal aims to prevent future ground collapses by centralizing geological information. Additionally, ERC is calling for accelerated air conditioning in schools and urban resilience planning for areas surrounding Collserola to mitigate wildfire risks.
