Urban planning and public service challenges reported in Mexican cities

In Cancún, the Municipal Institute of Planning (IMPLAN) has launched a tactical urbanism strategy to improve traffic flow and cyclist safety. The pilot program focuses on high-traffic areas, including Avenida Kabah and Avenida Huayacán, using temporary interventions to evaluate low-cost solutions. If successful and budget permits, the city aims to implement permanent infrastructure and traffic light systems by 2027.

In Cuernavaca, political aspirant Javier Bolaños Aguilar has called for a comprehensive strategy to address deteriorating public services. He cited issues such as recurring potholes, inadequate street lighting, and critical water shortages. Bolaños proposed better scheduling for roadworks to minimize congestion and suggested stricter regulations on new real estate developments to ensure existing neighborhoods have sufficient water, drainage, and road infrastructure before new construction is authorized.
