Urban planning developments face debate in Alicante and Almería

Urban development projects are facing scrutiny and debate in Spanish cities. In Alicante, the General Structural Plan (PGE) aims to shape the city's future through 2050, covering aspects such as climate adaptation, housing, and services. However, critics from UnirAlacant have expressed concerns regarding the transparency of the process, arguing that municipal workshops are merely informative rather than truly participatory, and that strategic decisions are being made by leadership rather than through genuine citizen debate.

In Almería, significant infrastructure works are underway, including railway integration and the burying of the AVE high-speed line. These projects, alongside the Port-City Project and the transformation of the Paseo axis, present opportunities to reshape the urban landscape. The goal is to create a balanced space that combines housing, economic activity, and green zones while respecting local heritage, such as the Station and the Cable Inglés. Recent government approvals aim to adapt building capacity to current realities while maintaining protected housing and new public spaces.
