Urban planning developments in Barcelona and Valencia

In Barcelona’s Nou Barris district, the local government has approved a land swap to resolve urban planning conflicts in the Vilapicina and Can Xiringoi areas. This maneuver allows for the protection of approximately forty historic houses in the Vilapicina and Mare de Déu de les Neus streets, which were previously threatened by a 1976 designation as a green zone.

Simultaneously, the swap enables the development of the Can Xiringoi Gardens. The plan includes the construction of the neighborhood’s first municipal nursery school, a children's center, and protected housing. By concentrating these facilities into a taller building, the project aims to preserve the majority of the existing green space as requested by local residents.

In Valencia, the Compromís municipal group has submitted a motion to update the Vara de Quart innovative district project. The initiative calls for a detailed report on urban planning modifications and a specific timeline for actions. The proposal seeks to balance the attraction of technology companies with the construction of affordable public housing, the creation of green zones, and the implementation of sustainable mobility plans to connect the industrial estate with neighboring districts.
