Urban planning shifts projected for Warsaw and Katowice

Urban planning and demographic forecasts indicate significant changes for major Polish cities. In Warsaw, a report by Transport & Environment and the Clean Cities Campaign suggests that by 2040, the city could lose parking capacity equivalent to between 10,000 and 17,500 vehicles. This reduction is not due to the removal of spaces, but rather the increasing physical dimensions of modern cars, which occupy more room on existing street-side parking spots.

Meanwhile, Katowice is facing a projected population decline. Forecasts suggest the city's population could drop from nearly 279,000 in 2024 to approximately 236,500 by 2044, a decrease of over 42,000 residents. Despite this decline, urban development plans identify capacity for new housing for roughly 58,000 people through intensified construction and high-rise buildings, particularly along major transit corridors like Chorzowska Street and the S86 route.
