Urban redevelopment and pedestrianization projects begin in Como and Serraino

Urban redevelopment and pedestrianization projects have commenced in several Italian locations. In Como, the administration led by Mayor Alessandro Rapinese has officially started works to requalify the lakefront area and Viale Geno. The project, which follows months of delays and disputes, is expected to last six months. The first phase involves resurfacing pavement in the Lungo Lario Trieste area, with subsequent work moving to Piazza De Gasperi in November. The plan aims to reduce traffic congestion through the implementation of a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL).

In Serraino, plans for a pedestrian zone or ZTL on Corso Mazzini are set to begin on September 25. Local criticism has been raised regarding the decision-making process, with concerns that the project was implemented unilaterally without sufficient public consultation or detailed planning regarding its logistical impact on the town center.
