Urban redevelopment projects advance in Incheon and Seoul

Local governments in South Korea are advancing various urban redevelopment and residential improvement projects to modernize aging districts.

In Incheon’s Seohae-gu, authorities are launching a comprehensive support system for redevelopment and reconstruction. The district is managing six redevelopment projects, with two nearing completion and four in active administrative stages. To prevent delays, a ‘one-stop’ administrative system will be established to guide residents through legal procedures. Additionally, the district is pursuing urban regeneration projects, including revitalizing the area around Seohae-gu Office Station and the former West Incheon Tax Office site, aiming for selection in a national Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport competition by 2029.

In Seoul, the Myeonmok 7 district in Jungnang-gu has passed the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s integrated review for a private residential redevelopment project. The approved plan will see the construction of 1,515 apartment units, reaching up to 35 stories, with 290 units designated as public housing. The project focuses on improving pedestrian safety near Myeonmok Station and enhancing local infrastructure through public contributions, which will include parks, sports facilities, social welfare centers, and a police substation.
