Urban redevelopment projects approved in Barracas and Pontevedra

In Buenos Aires, authorities have approved the feasibility of a project to convert the former Alpargatas factory in the Barracas neighborhood into a mixed-use complex. The project covers nearly 12,700 square meters and aims to preserve the historical buildings dating back to 1890. The development will integrate new constructions for housing, offices, commercial spaces, parking, and amenities.

While this approval allows the developer to proceed with urban planning procedures and complementary studies, it is not the final permit required to begin construction. The initiative seeks to revitalize a site that has faced years of abandonment while maintaining its industrial identity.

In Pontevedra, Spain, the historical gardens of the former Santa Clara convent are set to open to the public, likely in 2027. The project, with a tender budget of 821,555 euros, aims to recover approximately 4,500 square meters of green space that has remained largely inaccessible for centuries.

The restoration will focus on the convent's original vegetable garden, featuring cherry and apple trees, historical trellises, and improved pedestrian paths. The intervention includes planting hundreds of shrubs and trees to restore the site's botanical essence.
