Urban regeneration projects in Milan and Melfi
In Milan, the municipal government has granted preliminary approval to the PA3 implementation plan for the former Macello area. Located in Municipio 4, the project covers approximately 150,000 square meters. The plan, part of the ARIA project selected through the Reinventing Cities initiative, aims to transform the decommissioned livestock market into a district featuring housing, campuses, green spaces, and services. This administrative step precedes final approval and does not signify the completion of the works.
In Melfi, the former courthouse building has remained vacant for 14 years following its suppression in 2012. The 3,000-square-meter Palace of Justice, located in the historic center, has contributed to the economic decline of the surrounding area by reducing daily foot traffic. Local calls for urban regeneration suggest repurposing the site for social, cultural, or educational activities, such as housing a student community, to revitalize the medieval village.
