Urban rehabilitation projects advance in Alcoi and Barcelona
Significant urban renewal projects are entering their final stages in Alcoi and Barcelona, focusing on energy efficiency and heritage preservation.
In Alcoi, the Sagrat Cor neighborhood is nearing the completion of an energy rehabilitation project for 208 homes. The 4.7 million euro initiative, funded largely by European Funds (84%), aims to improve thermal insulation in buildings constructed in the 1960s. The works include installing thermal envelopes, replacing windows, renewing hot water systems, and adding photovoltaic panels for community use. Residents are contributing only 1% of the total cost.
In Barcelona, the historic Torre Garcini in the Guinardó district is being transformed into a community center for the elderly. This 4 million euro municipal project involves restoring an 18th-century farmhouse and constructing an annex with multipurpose rooms. The renovation focuses on preserving architectural elements such as ceramic roof tiles and hydraulic floor tiles while opening the gardens to the local community. Completion is expected in early 2027.
