Urban revitalization projects underway in Košice and Znojmo
Urban development and revitalization projects are underway in Košice, Slovakia, and Znojmo, Czech Republic, focusing on transforming public spaces and historical buildings.
In Košice, the city is implementing a new territorial plan designed to accommodate a projected population of 300,000. Key projects include the development of the new Hornád city center and the transformation of the former Malinovského barracks. Chief architect Peter Kropp noted that the plan is being used as a primary development document to ensure predictable growth and address increasing housing demand through both private and state-supported rental initiatives.
In Znojmo, the city has unveiled plans to revitalize a historical former post office building on Horní náměstí. The project aims to convert the underutilized structure into a modern library and community center. Designed by Ladislav Pilař, the proposal focuses on preserving original architectural details, such as cast-iron columns and historic staircases, while adding modern amenities like a literary café, a lecture hall, a recording studio, and a rooftop terrace to serve various generations.
