Urban safety and renovation procedures in Brest and Tarbes

In Brest, a parcel inquiry regarding three buildings in the Haut-Jaurès district is concluding on November 4, 2026. This step in a real estate restoration operation (ORI) aims to identify property boundaries and owners. While not an immediate decision to evict, the process allows the Prefect of Finistère to declare properties eligible for expropriation if legal conditions are met, intended to force necessary renovations to make housing habitable.

In Tarbes, municipal authorities are taking action to prevent building collapses following concerns over dilapidated structures. Two specific old buildings at the intersection of Cours Reffye and Rue des Pyrénées have been flagged after residents reported falling roof and balcony elements. The city has requested a judicial expertise to evaluate the risks and ensure public safety, noting that five or six other buildings in the city are currently under close monitoring.
