Urban sanitation and infrastructure issues reported in Mexico and Chile

Various regions in Mexico and Chile are facing challenges related to urban sanitation and infrastructure. In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the persistent accumulation of domestic waste in street corners is creating health risks and potential drainage blockages, despite municipal warning signs.

In the Las Mojoneras delegation, residents have blocked Avenida México to protest flooding and environmental contamination. Heavy rains caused flooding in approximately 22 homes, which locals attribute to an obstructed canal containing a large log. The area is also suffering from illegal waste dumping that has created foul odors and infection risks.

In Calama, Chile, Mayor Eliecer Chamorro announced plans to transform a 1,200-square-meter abandoned lot into a community center. The project, which has an approved preliminary design and estimated funding of approximately $500 million, aims to reclaim a space currently used for illegal drug consumption and crime to improve local security.
