Urban Schwegler completes Tortour ultracycling event for Haiti charity

Urban Schwegler and his cycling partner David Smits participated in the Tortour, the world’s largest multi-day nonstop ultracycling event, held from August 12 to 16. Competing in the premier category, the duo cycled to raise donations for a project in Haiti.

Schwegler, a researcher at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil, has a background in competitive cycling. After previously participating in the event as part of a four-person team, he attempted a solo 1,000-kilometer ride in 2024 but was forced to withdraw after 750 kilometers due to severe weather conditions, including hail and thunderstorms.
