Urban Sketchers Pontevedra promotes community art through outdoor drawing

Outdoor drawing is gaining popularity in Spain as a community-driven activity that brings together artists of all skill levels. These gatherings, which include local contests and periodic group meetings, focus on fostering social connections and environmental appreciation through art.

In Pontevedra, the Urban Sketchers group exemplifies this trend. Composed primarily of women, the group meets monthly in various city locations to sketch urban elements. Despite challenges such as rain, members gather in public spaces like the Plaza de Curros Enríquez to practice techniques using pencil and watercolor.

The group was co-founded by Macu and professional illustrator Chus Rojo to overcome the hesitation of drawing alone in public. These community initiatives are often supported by local associations and municipalities, providing a space where children, adults, and seniors can share techniques and improve their observational skills.
