Turkey invests 34 billion TL in earthquake zone cultural heritage

Turkey's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, has announced significant investments to restore cultural heritage in the 11 provinces affected by the February 6 earthquakes. Total investment for these cultural assets is expected to reach 34 billion TL. To date, over 12.265 billion TL has been utilized for restoration projects through the General Directorate of Cultural Assets and Museums, with 79 projects already completed and 17 currently ongoing.

In Kahramanmaraş, the restoration of the historic Kahramanmaraş Castle has been completed, and it has officially reopened to visitors. Additionally, five historic mosques—Acemli, Bektutiye, Hacı Veli Bey, Saraçhane, and Şekerli—have been restored and reopened for worship. The Ministry is also supporting the restoration of private registered buildings with grants of up to 5 million TL.

In Samsun, the Kadıköy Urban Transformation Project has commenced its first phase in the İlkadım district. This multi-stage project aims to replace high-risk areas with 2,104 new units, including 1,925 residences and 179 commercial spaces, to improve urban safety and modern living standards.
