Urban transport initiatives focus on tramway funding and carpooling
Municipal tramway networks are being positioned as a key pillar for sustainable urban transport. According to the Banque des Territoires, specialized financing models can support the construction, modernization, and maintenance of these infrastructures. These investments aim to reduce traffic congestion, lower emissions, and improve the overall quality of life for residents by enhancing urban mobility.
In Rennes, the Covoit’STAR program, a partnership with BlaBlaCar Daily, is working to expand carpooling usage. As of September 2026, the service reported 93,000 registered users, with 27,440 individuals having completed at least one trip. Data indicates that approximately 10,000 trips are recorded monthly, contributing to a reduction in individual automobile use through incentivized transit options.
