Urbaser to appoint Carlos Albi as CEO amid Blackstone and EQT acquisition

Urbaser is undergoing a leadership transition and a change in ownership. Carlos Albi, the current Chief Operating Officer (COO), will become the company's CEO effective January 1. He succeeds Fernando Abril-Martorell, who will move into the role of non-executive chairman of the board.

This leadership change coincides with the acquisition of 100% of Urbaser by a consortium consisting of Blackstone and EQT. The transaction values the environmental services group at approximately 5,600 million euros, including debt. This represents a significant increase from the 3,500 million euro valuation when Platinum took control of the company in 2022.

Since the previous ownership change, Urbaser has implemented a reorganization and divestment strategy, which included the sale of its subsidiaries in the United Kingdom and the Nordic region.
