Urbino Prosecutor rejects reopening Floride Cesaretti murder case
The Urbino Prosecutor's Office has rejected a request to reopen the investigation into the 1998 murder of Floride Cesaretti. Cesaretti, a university porter, was killed with 22 shovel blows to the head at the “Il Colle“ university college in Urbino during the night of November 26-27, 1998.
The decision follows a forensic technical consultation aimed at comparing genetic profiles. The results excluded compatibility between the mitochondrial DNA found in hair samples under the victim's fingernails and the profiles of individuals identified by the victim's husband, Stellindo Denti, including a former professor.
Despite the rejection, Denti's lawyer, Marco Cassiani, stated that the family does not intend to give up. A recourse is currently pending before the European Court of Human Rights regarding a claim for civil damages that was previously denied to the Denti family.
