Italy: Taxi unions demand crackdown on illegal services as school staff receive pay raises

In Italy, the taxi industry is calling for stricter enforcement against unauthorized services. Claudio Giudici, president of Uritaxi, stated that the priority is to combat illegal professional practices. He noted that while NCC (chauffeur services) are not permitted to pick up passengers without prior booking or wait in taxi ranks, they are frequently seen doing so via apps. Giudici highlighted that taxi drivers face unfair competition due to regulated tariffs, shift obligations, and specific aesthetic requirements that non-regulated services do not follow.

In the education sector, approximately 40,000 ATA school staff members are set to receive salary increases and back pay in October. The measure, totaling over 120 million euros, includes annual increases between 700 and 2,000 euros, plus back pay ranging from 1,450 to 4,150 euros. Minister Giuseppe Valditara described the move as a fulfilled promise to recognize the professional value of school support staff.

Meanwhile, in Messina, the local administration has reopened dialogue with trade unions regarding personnel issues. While Mayor Federico Basile has shown willingness to discuss economic progressions and salary issues, the state of industrial agitation remains as unions await concrete actions following recent tensions.
