Urška Žigart Returns to Training Without Jaw Surgery

After additional medical examinations, Urška Žigart was told that surgery on her jaw would not be required, allowing a more typical recovery process. Under the close supervision of the Belgian team’s medical staff, she has gradually resumed training on the bike. Her fiancé, world‑tour rider Tadej Pogačar, confirmed her return.

Žigart’s crash occurred during the second stage of the Tour de Suisse when she lost control at about 50 km/h, collided with a road barrier and came to a stop on the road. Several other riders in the group also fell, and she was later taken to a hospital in Locarno, Switzerland. The incident has reignited safety concerns in professional women’s cycling. The women’s division of the UCI professional cyclists’ association questioned whether the current safety system provides adequate protection, affirmed its support for the SafeR safety body, and called for a review of existing safety measures.
