Urla geothermal drilling project enters EIA process

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process has commenced for geothermal drilling activities in Urla, Turkey. The project involves a 445.77-hectare search license, though the actual drilling will be conducted within a specific 700-square-meter area designated for the EIA.

The site is currently classified as agricultural land. According to the report, the project aims to drill a single well to extract geothermal water for regional greenhouse activities and potential spa facilities, rather than for electricity production. The company has stated that no Geothermal Power Plant (JES) is planned as part of this specific project.

The nearest residential area, Nohutalan, is located 770 meters from the site. The report notes that the 2-kilometer impact zone does not include any national parks, special environmental protection areas, or protected sites. To protect local water resources, all water required for personnel and drilling fluids will be transported to the site via tankers and bottles from external sources.
