Urla mother kills leukemia-stricken son before committing suicide

In the Urla district of Izmir, 60-year-old Nurten Kandemir killed her 19-year-old son, Ahmet Barış Kandemir, before taking her own life.

Ahmet Barış Kandemir was reportedly a person with a mental disability who was undergoing treatment for leukemia. The incident was discovered by a school shuttle driver who arrived at the residence in the Iskele neighborhood to pick up the young man for special education classes. After receiving no response at the door, the driver looked through a window and discovered both individuals motionless.

Police investigations determined that the mother shot her son with a handgun and subsequently used the same weapon to commit suicide. Authorities have moved the bodies to a morgue for autopsy, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
