Uroš Likar hospitalized after severe facial injury in Switzerland
Slovenian goalkeeper Uroš Likar has been hospitalized following a severe collision during a match with his Swiss club, Neuchâtel Xamax. During the first half of the game, an opposing attacker struck Likar directly in the face with his knee while charging for the ball.
Medical examinations and scans have confirmed multiple fractures to Likar’s cheekbone and jaw. He is scheduled for surgery in Bern and faces a lengthy recovery period, including at least one month of complete immobilization followed by a month of playing in a protective facial mask.
The incident was marked by controversial officiating, as the referee awarded a penalty to the opposing team despite the heavy contact that injured Likar.
