Urology experts discuss urinary infection risks and prostate treatments

Medical experts are highlighting the importance of proper diagnosis and advanced treatment options for urinary and prostate health. Urologist Dr. Hilmi Çelik warns against self-medicating with antibiotics for symptoms such as burning during urination, frequent urination, or changes in urine color and odor. He notes that recurring infections may stem from underlying issues like kidney or bladder stones, prostate problems, or structural urinary tract issues, and emphasizes that symptoms like fever, chills, or back pain require immediate medical attention to prevent kidney complications.

Regarding benign prostate enlargement, which commonly causes difficulty urinating and frequent nighttime awakenings in aging men, Associate Professor Dr. Osman Barut discussed the Rezum method. This minimally invasive procedure uses controlled water vapor delivered through a specialized device to target enlarged prostate tissue. The heat energy from the steam causes the tissue to shrink naturally over time, reducing pressure on the urinary canal and improving patient quality of life.
