Urska Zigart Hospitalized After Severe Crash in Swiss Tour de Suisse

Urska Zigart, the 29‑year‑old Slovenian rider from AG Insurance‑Soudal, suffered a heavy fall in the final kilometre of the second stage of the women’s Tour de Suisse around Locarno. While negotiating a traffic‑calming speed bump, she lost control, crashed at roughly 50 km/h and was dragged along the road, pulling down several other riders. Medical staff treated her on‑site and she was taken to hospital where examinations confirmed a broken jaw; other injuries were not found, though she is being observed for a possible concussion. Zigart remained conscious and spoke with her fiancé, world‑tour champion Tadej Pogačar, after the incident. The stage was won by Elisa Longo Borghini, with Zigart having been part of the chase group about two minutes behind.

The crash has prompted renewed discussion about the safety of course obstacles such as speed bumps in professional cycling, with riders and officials calling for better protection on race routes.
