European Union faces hybrid warfare threats after drone crash in Romania
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has denounced a campaign of ‘hybrid warfare’ intended to divide the European Union. This statement follows an incident in which a drone originating from Ukraine crashed in the Romanian city of Tulcea.
According to the Romanian Ministry of Defense, military radar detected the aircraft near the border at approximately 2:23 AM local time. This event is part of a growing trend of unmanned aerial vehicles entering European airspace.
In response to these security threats, von der Leyen highlighted the ‘ReArmar Europa’ program, which has mobilized 800 billion euros to enhance the bloc's autonomy and defense capabilities. She also referenced the European Drone Defense Initiative and the Eastern Flank Surveillance to encourage the defense industry to increase production and ensure member states can respond to emerging threats with unity.
