Urszula Pasławska faces calls to step down from hunting law committee
Activists are calling for the removal of MP Urszula Pasławska from her position as chair of the Sejm Committee on Environmental Protection, Natural Resources, and Forestry during the deliberation of a new hunting law. The demand follows the submission of a citizen legislative project, ‘Uwaga! Polowanie’, which gathered 204,238 signatures.
Critics, including the group Akcja Demokracji, argue that Pasławska faces a conflict of interest due to her active involvement in hunting. She is an honorary member of the Polish Hunting Association (PZŁ) and has publicly opposed several key measures proposed in the new project, such as mandatory periodic medical examinations for hunters and restrictions on night vision and thermal imaging technology.
A petition signed by over 4,000 people requests that she be replaced by an impartial individual not connected to the hunting community for the duration of the project's processing. The petition also cites concerns regarding her professional ethics, referencing a social media post she made involving imagery of a smoking firearm following the resignation of a climate official.
