Uruapan councilman faces public backlash during government report
During the second government report of Mayor Grecia Quiroz in Uruapan, Michoacán, Morena councilman Carlos Silva Cortés was met with significant booing and chants of “Fuera, Morena” (Out with Morena) from the audience.
Silva Cortés used his intervention to criticize the municipal administration's performance, specifically regarding regulatory deficiencies, the management of the Citizen Guard, and the treatment of public security personnel. The crowd's hostility intensified when the councilman made references to the Morena party and Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla.
Morelia Mayor Alfonso Martínez Alcázar described the incident as “bochornoso” (shameful) and suggested that the backlash in Uruapan reflects a broader state-wide discontent with the Morena party. Martínez Alcázar cited issues such as rural abandonment, lack of access to medical services, and insecurity on roads as drivers of this public frustration, noting that such sentiments may foreshadow political shifts leading up to the 2027 elections.
