Uruapan Mayor defends US trip aimed at municipal agreements

Grecia Quiroz García, the municipal president of Uruapan, Michoacán, has addressed criticism regarding her recent trip to the United States. During a live broadcast, Quiroz denied allegations of political promotion or electoral intent, stating, “I am not a traitor to the country.”

Quiroz explained that the visit to cities including Los Angeles, California, and McAllen, Texas, was prompted by an invitation from the Casa AJUA association, which covered her travel, lodging, and meal expenses. The primary goal of the trip was to establish agreements to benefit the municipality and Michoacán residents living abroad.

The tour focused on pursuing sister-city relationships between Uruapan and the cities of Oxnard, California, and McAllen, Texas. Such agreements are intended to facilitate the legal donation of vehicles, heavy machinery, and medicine to the municipality. Quiroz noted that she has already signed documentation to advance a potential donation of heavy machinery. Additionally, the visit aimed to connect the municipality with business leaders and establish training programs for Uruapan’s municipal police and fire departments.
