Uruapan Mayor Grecia Quiroz alleges plot to imprison her

Grecia Quiroz García, the mayor of Uruapan, has denounced a purported plan by political rivals to have her imprisoned and removed from office. These accusations coincide with ongoing investigations by the Michoacán Prosecutor's Office regarding the murder of her husband, former mayor Carlos Manzo, in November 2025. The Prosecutor's Office has requested the delivery of mobile phones belonging to the late mayor for forensic analysis as part of the homicide investigation.

Simultaneously, Quiroz has undertaken a working tour in the United States, specifically in California, to meet with Michoacán migrant communities and business leaders. The trip aims to foster investment and economic ties for Uruapan. During this tour, Quiroz addressed her political future, leaving open the possibility of running for the governorship of Michoacán in 2027, though she emphasized that her current priority is listening to the needs of the citizenry.
