Uruapan officials seek federal security reinforcement
Grecia Quiroz, the substitute president of Uruapan, Michoacán, has requested support from Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s Secretary of Security and Protection of Citizens, to address a recent wave of violence in the municipality.
The request follows a targeted attack on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in which Dania Rojas, a 28-year-old woman, was killed while working at a local taquería. Quiroz emphasized that the community must not become accustomed to such violence and has called for accelerated investigations by the Prosecutor's Office to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Quiroz and García Harfuch are scheduled to meet in the coming days to analyze security strategies and coordinate efforts between different levels of government. While acknowledging previous federal investment, such as the installation of a municipal police barracks, the local leadership is seeking reinforced security measures to restore peace to the region.
