Uruguay and Venezuela boost road safety education initiatives

In Uruguay, the Club de Leones Salto Ayuí, led by Alessander Tironi, will hold a series of talks in Belén and Salto during the international "May Yellow" campaign. Tironi warned that road traffic is "a silent pandemic we normalize every day" and cited official figures of 471 traffic‑related deaths in the country last year. The events aim to promote scientific evidence, align with United Nations recommendations and foster cultural change in driver behaviour.

In Venezuela, the National Institute of Land Transport (Intt) marked the Day of the School Patrol by strengthening student brigades across schools under the national plan “Respeta el rayado, no te rayes”. The programme, dating back to 1957, teaches children traffic rules, demarcates school zones and encourages pupils to become safety ambassadors in their families and communities.

Both initiatives seek to reduce road‑traffic injuries and fatalities by educating the public, especially young people, and changing attitudes toward road safety.
