Solaria to invest US$ 5.7 billion in Uruguay data centers and solar energy

Uruguay has announced a major technological and energy project involving an estimated investment of US$ 5,700 million. The agreement, signed by President Yamandú Orsi with the Spanish company Solaria Energía y Medio Ambiente, aims to develop a complex integrating data centers and solar photovoltaic plants.

The project will be implemented in two stages. The first stage involves US$ 5,500 million for data center infrastructure with a capacity of 200 MW, alongside US$ 200 million for solar generation capacity of up to 350 MW. A second stage is planned to add another 300 MW of data center capacity. The facilities will be located in the departments of Canelones and San José under a free zone regime, while the solar plant will be situated in Florida.

This initiative is expected to create approximately 3,100 jobs during the construction phase and 1,500 permanent positions once operational. The government considers this the largest investment in the country's history, leveraging Uruguay's renewable energy matrix to support the growing global demand for digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence services.
