Uruguay calls for guitarists to join 200-person ensemble

The National Institute of Music (INMUS) in Uruguay has launched a call for guitarists to participate in the “200 Guitarras Uruguayas” ensemble. The project aims to bring together 200 musicians from across the country to perform representative works of Uruguayan music on October 1, 2026, at the Plaza Débora Céspedes in Montevideo.

To celebrate International Music Day, the initiative seeks to highlight the guitar as a fundamental element of national musical identity. The ensemble will feature arrangements by Guzmán Mendaro, Julio Cobelli, and Andrés “Poly” Rodríguez. Applicants must be residents of Uruguay, over 18 years old, and experienced in playing the classical guitar. Selected participants will prepare the repertoire remotely before joining the in-person event in Montevideo.
