Uruguay celebrates Heritage Day with national cultural activities
Uruguay is celebrating Heritage Day with various cultural and historical activities across the country. Under the theme ‘Indigenous Roots: past, present and future’, the celebrations include maritime, historical, and archaeological offerings.
In Montevideo, the National Navy, the National Port Administration (ANP), and Cennave are hosting events through the Maritime Museum. Visitors can tour several vessels, including the ROU 04 ‘Gral. Artigas’ and ROU 10 ‘Huracán’. The schedule includes diver demonstrations, dog unit presentations, and concerts by the Parade Band. Other accessible sites include the Naval School, the Naval Museum, and various lighthouses such as those in Punta del Este and Cabo Polonio.
In other regions, such as San José de Mayo, activities include guided tours of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and San Benito de Palermo, featuring its organ and clock. Other local programs include archaeological cataloging sessions, exhibitions on indigenous roots, and tours of funerary heritage at the Monumento a Perpetuidad. The Police Headquarters is also opening to the public to showcase museum objects.
