Uruguay defeats India 6-1 in Kolkata friendly

Uruguay defeated India 6-1 in an international friendly held at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. The match, part of Uruguay's Asian tour under manager Diego Forlán, was briefly interrupted for approximately 30 minutes due to a thunderstorm and lightning.

Darwin Núñez opened the scoring for Uruguay with a penalty in the 11th minute. India responded in the 22nd minute through Anirudh Thapa, who scored a historic goal, becoming only the second Indian to score against Uruguay in a senior international. Following the weather delay, Uruguay regained control with goals from Maximiliano Araújo, who scored twice, Rodrigo Zalazar, Juan Manuel Sanabria, and Rodrigo Aguirre.

In addition to the match results, the Uruguayan team wore pink socks as part of a breast cancer awareness campaign. The victory concludes a tour for Uruguay that included matches against Japan and South Korea, while for India, the match followed recent fixtures against Brazil and Panama.
