Uruguay deploys interns to police stations to optimize operations
The Uruguayan Ministry of the Interior has launched a program to incorporate interns into police stations to improve service and optimize personnel allocation. Under the National Public Security Plan, the first 56 interns received their certifications at the Montevideo Police Headquarters.
This initiative aims to handle administrative tasks and the management of reports, allowing trained police officers to focus on operational duties such as patrolling, investigations, and follow-ups. The program expects to expand to more than 140 interns in the coming months.
Training for the interns included legal regulations, the use of the Public Security Management System (SGSP), protocols, and cybersecurity. Officials stated the goal is to reduce waiting times, improve the quality of reports, and provide more empathetic service to citizens, particularly those in vulnerable situations.
